Good News

After 2.5 years of being long distance my wife is moving in with me this weekend. We have been married about 6 months. I am flying to Amarillo after work and riding back with her and very excited.
Now that I am back in training it is run run run. I did 5 miles last night right after it stopped raining. It was 66 degrees with over 80% humidity and I got to wear my bright yellow tank top. Finished in 46:22 and I felt good. 9 hours later I was back at it again with a 3.1 miles run. I felt fresh and full of energy even though I skipped diner. My diet has be pretty bad this week. I pushed hard to keep my pace steady and finished my 5k in 26:34 which is my fastest solo road 5k and my second fastest 5k time. It go me very excited about training and the Marathon is exactly 4 months from today.
Somehow I let something slip my mind yesterday. My 2 year anniversary since the start of my first challenge. I am 2 pounds light today than then but stronger and faster. Ellen told me yesterday she wants to start a new challenge Monday and I am super glad. I plan to do one with her except I will be doing 4 days cardio and 2 days strength training a week. Also, Ellen might have a job lined up starting in January when we get back from Reno.

Marathon Training Day 3 Week 1

I felt fresh and full of energy even though I skipped diner. My diet has be pretty bad this week. I had my best solo training 5k time and my 2nd best road 5k time. 26:34. I am getting even more excited about the Big D Marathon 4 months from today.

I can't remember if I mentioned it but after my half marathon my big toes were super sore. Since I land on my front foot when I run, and mid-foot when I get tired. During the Half my toes were cramped against the front of my shoes and rubbing. I went to a running store to get sized and fitted yesterday and found out my current shoes and too short and too narrow. My left foot is a 9.5 and my right foot is an 8.5 and they recommended going up a full size for marathon running since your feet swell. I also found out losing toenails is pretty common. I lost my left big toenail 3 weeks ago. Here is a picture of my healing progress. The day of race, 2 weeks later, and 6 weeks later (today). My new phone has a better camera.

Marathon Training Day 2 Week 1

Now that I am back in training it is run run run. I did 5 miles tonight right after it stopped raining. It was 66 degrees with over 80% humidity and I got to wear my bright yellow tank top. Finished in 46:22 and I felt good. 9 hours from now I will be back at it again with a 3.1 miles run.

Marathon Training Started

Lots going on in my mind/fitness scheduling today. The Marathon I was planning on training for is the same weekend as Denton Jazz & Arts Festival and was not going to work. Luckily I found a Marathon in Dallas that is 2 weeks earlier. This means instead of starting my marathon training December 28th it started last night. I did a 5K in the park in 26:57. I also had to find a new Half Marathon to fit into my schedule and there is one in Galveston at the beginning of February so I can visit my grandma and get fit it in. I started looking further into 2012 and found a half marathon this summer in Colorado near the town we got married. If I take off 4 weeks after my Marathon in April I will have 11 weeks to train for it. I am super excited.
Tonight: 5 miles

Compressed Arm Workout

This morning I did a compressed version of my arm workout. I got it done in under 30 minutes and worked myself to failure at the end with drop sets. I was flexing in the locker room mirror and somebody walk it and quickly stopped and was slightly embarrassed. I have not been increasing my weights over the past 3 weeks but I am doing super slow controlled sets with good form and only 6-10 reps a set.

Feeling Good

I met my running buddy and we did 3.58 miles. Last week he was dragging at the end and we only did 3.36 but this time he got in the zone after 2 miles and commented that he could keep going. He whipped me into shape in march and april and now I am whipping him into shape since he did not run at all from September 24th to November 22nd. He bought a house in October, moved, and quit his gym. Back in the spring he was training for the FBI fitness test. The running portion requires doing 1.5 miles in under 10 minutes which is a 6:40 min/mile pace. That is really fast and my quickest mile run has been 7:09 (last night) and quickest 2 mile was 7:28.

Run to Rosa's

Dilema: My Aunt decided to celebrate her birthday at Rosa's Tortilla Factory at 5:30pm on a Tuesday. I am been working 11 hours days and overtime. In order to make it on time I had to go into work at 6am. With my hour commute to work I have to be on the road by 5am and I won't run to run after eating Fajitas at Rosa's.
Solution: Worked until 4:30pm and cut the day short to 10.5 hours. Run from my parents house to Rosa's giving just enough time to get there.
